Spa Days With Vai: What To Do After A Facial

“You’ve just had a great facial and you’re loving that post-facial glow but— now what? Read on to learn what you should be doing after a facial treatment!

1.) Drink Plenty Of Water:

While drinking water is crucial to the proper functioning of ALL bodily systems, it is also important after a facial. The massage manipulations during a facial stimulate the lymphatic system and hydrating with plenty of fluids helps to drain toxins out of your systems.

2.) Follow Your Esthetician’s Advice: Your esthetician likely gave you some home-care instructions after your facial— it’s in your skin’s best interest to follow up on those instructions! Not having a good home care routine for your skin is like seeing a routine for your skin is like seeing a trainer at the gym once a month, not working out at home, and still expecting results. You and your esthetician need to work together to achieve your skincare goals.

3.) Avoid Picking At Your Skin Or Touching Your Face:

Your freshly cleansed and exfoliated skin needs time to repair after a facial so hands off! For my acne-prone friends, we know you mean well, nut avoid picking at pimples! It is normal for the skin to purge after a treatment and your esthetician will not extract any acne papules or pustules that aren’t ‘ready’! It’s best to let the acne run it’s course as improper extractions can lead to scarring or irritation.

4.) Be Gentle: Your skin may be on the sensitive side after a facial so be sure to use hydrating products and avoid drying or alcohol-based products. Avoid any exfoliating or acid products at home for a few days as your esthetician likely exfoliated your skin already. And most importantly, wear a sunscreen and don’t forget to reapply! UV rays cause skin irreversible damage and will undo any progress made towards hyperpigmentation, acne, fine-lines, and wrinkles. So protect your skin and wear SPF every single day.

5.) Change Your Bedsheets, Clean Your Phone, Wash Your Makeup Brushes:

While it’s not recommended to immediately wear makeup after a facial, anything that touches your face needs to be clean. That includes makeup brushes, pillowcases, bedding, and your phone screen. Anything that touches your face for an extended period of time needs to be clean, so that dirt doesn’t clog your pores.

Following these tips will help you make the most out of your facial and help you reap the benefits as long as possible. Remember that having great skin doesn’t end in the treatment room and that having a great homecare routine is half the battle. I’d love to help you reach your skincare goals— find me in the spa for questions and recommendations!”
