Spa Days With Vai- Inside An Esthetician’s Skincare Routine
“I thought this week we could try something a little different for our weekly skincare discussion — I’d like to walk you through my daily skincare routine as a licensed esthetician! I’m here to show you that you don’t necessarily need a 10- step routine to get great results. Sometimes simple is best!
My skin personally tends to be on the oily side and I do have redness and sensitivity on my checks. The products I chose reflect my skins needs and are not necessarily what I would recommend to you. Let’s Dive in!
In the morning, I start my morning by cleansing my skin. I try to really massage the cleanser into my skin because I tend to have puffy skin in the mornings. The massage helps to drain my Lymph and wakes me up! Right now I’m loving Aveda’s Purifying Gel Cleanser, which cleanses and suds up well, but doesn’t leave my skin tight/dry. Then I spray Aveda’s Toning Mist on my face and neck to restore my skin’s PH after cleansing. The toning mist contains aloe and rose extract to soothe the skin and witch hazel to control sebum. After toning, I apply a Vitamin C Serum to protect me from free Radicals that dull and age the skin. I’m currently using Very Cherry Bright from Farmacy. Lastly, I’ll apply a mineral sunscreen (I love Supergoop’s Unseen SPF) to protect against UVA/UVB rays. I do tent to skin moisturizer in the mornings because both my sunscreen and foundation contains hydrating ingredients.
In the evenings I begin cleansing with Farmacy’s Green Clean Balm. If you wear makeup, I highly recommend cleansing with an oil or balm to dissolve makeup and grime before your regular cleanser. After massaging the cleaning balm for about a minute, I follow up with my Aveda Purifying Gel Cleanser. I’m also using that for about a minute to ensure every bit of the day is washed away. Then I’ll use that Toning Mist from Aveda to restore my skins PH. Most nights I’ll use the super hydrating and anti-ageing Skinlongevity Serum from BareMinerals but twice a week I use the Honeymoon Glow Serum from Farmacy, which has AHAs and BHAs to exfoliate and refine my skin. Then I’ll tap BareMinerals Skinlongevity Eye Cream in my undereye area and around the eye. If my skin is feeling particularly dry or sensitive, I like the BareMinerals Smoothness Moisturizer, which had ceramides to protect against irritation, but most night I’m using Aveda’s Hydrating Lotion. The hydrating lotion contains fruit and seed oils for moisture but is still lightweight and non-greasy. On occasion I will use rosehip seed oil and a gua sha stone to give myself a face massage but usually that’s a Sunday ritual for me.
And there you have it! You’ll notice that my routine contains a cleanser, moisturizer, Vitamin C, Serum, SPF, and something to exfoliate. Those are the basics of a great skincare routine, and we can figure out what specific products will work best for your skincare goals with a consultation! I’d love to help you establish your own routine! Until next time, Vai”
