Take Care Tuesday- Summer Skin Tips

Summer is Here!

“Memorial Day weekend has come and gone, and for many of us, that means that summer is here! While the season doesn’t “officially” start till late June, I believe in being proactive, and with a new season comes an updated skincare routine. Read on for some tips for healthy radiant skin when the weather gets hot!

1) Keep us with your exfoliation routine. When it’s hot + humid outside, your skin will naturally produce more oil (sebum), which can lead to clogged pores, causing breakouts. Whether you exfoliate with a mask, scrub, or liquid toner, use your favorite exfoliating products 2-3 times weekly to slough off the extra dead skin cells.

2)Hydrate inside and out! We all know the importance of staying hydrated with water, especially in warmer climates because we tend to lose water due to perspiration. But in addition to sipping your H2O all day, try eating your hydration with water-loaded foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and tomatoes! Your skin also still needs extra hydration on the outside from a good moisturizer, but swap out your winter oil-based creams for a lightweight water-based gel or lightweight lotion.

3) Avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. We all know the sun’s UV rays can be so incredibly damaging to the skin and can start to reverse progress you have made with your facials and targeting skincare routine. UV rays can cause dark spots on the skin and break down collagen, leading to fine lines and wrinkles. Here are some ways to protect the skin when avoiding direct sunlight isn’t possible. Try wearing a wide- brimmed hat and sunglasses, avoid the sunlight especially from mid morning to mid afternoon when the UV rays are at there highest, and Always, Always, Always wear your sunscreen. Choosing to spray tan or use self tanner instead of laying out in the sun is a great way to fake a bronzed look, that most of us love.

4) Wear your SPF and reapply throughout the day. Long gone are the days of greasy, white, pore clogging sunscreens! We have so many options for SPF in so many forms that there is a sunscreen out there for every skin type, so no excuses! SPF is your number one fighter to healthy skin against ALL issues, including anti-ageing , acne, hyperpigmentation, and melanoma. Remember to apply every 2 hours so you’re always protected.

5) Invest in an antioxidant serum for extra protection. Antioxidant serums, like Vitamin C serums, work with SPF to combat against hyperpigmentation and helps with collagen production. It helps to shield your skin from smoke pollution, and sun exposure, leaving you with a bright and even toned complexion.

While you’re out having fun this summer, don’t forget these 5 tips for taking care of your skin. When fall rolls around, You’ll be glad you did! Enjoy the warmer weather, and as always, you can find me in the spa if you have questions!” -Xoxo Vai
