Spring Cleaning: Makeup Style

Happy Spring Cleaning!

Now is the time to take a look through your makeup and skincare products! Make sure you check the expiration dates of all items. Not sure where to find the expiration date? It should be listed on the container as a small jar, like the ones here. The expirations should be listed as 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, or 24 months.

The use of expired beauty products can increase the chance of bacterial growth and can cause infection. As the makeup starts to get older, the ingredients start to breakdown which means the preservatives in the products will start to breakdown as well and this allows bacteria to form. You will not only be able to find the small jar symbol that shows when to toss but you will notice certain signs. Signs such as a funky smell to mascara, a film when using creams, blushes and bronzers. You may also notice a product starting to cause breakouts. This is another sign your makeup is old!
