Spa Days With Vai- How to prepare for a facial
“Facials are an incredibly rejuvenating experience that can help you reach your skincare goals. In order to get the most out of your facial service, you may need to do a little preparation beforehand. Follow these tips for your best experience in the treatment room!
1) Know your skincare routine and products at home. Your esthetician will ask about your homecare routine to know what your skin can and can’t tolerate. It also helps to see, if what you’re using is appropriate for your specific skin type/problems. We can also use your routine to “fill in the blank” by suggesting products that may ne missing from your line-up. So jot down what you use on your face or take photos so we can get to know your skin better!
2) Skin any strong treatments or exfoliation a few days before your facial. Often times your esthetician will also be doing exfoliation during your facial service, and too much exfoliation can lead to irritation and sensitivity. I think you an I both would prefer to focus on trouble areas rather then treating the sensitivity, so stick to hydrating products before your facial service.
3) Don’t forget to mention medications, allergies, or health conditions before your service. This may seem obvious but please let your esthetician know about any health information that could be dangerous if overlooked. For example, some antibiotics increase sensitivity to sunlight so treatments that ALSO cause increased sensitivity to sunlight is not the best combination. Be ready to answer if you are using any steroids, antibiotics, cardiac medication, cancer treatment, etc.
4) Turn your phone off!! I am not personally offended by someone using their phone during a treatment but this is time that you’ve carved out for yourself to relax! It’s hard to stay peaceful and bliss during a treatment when your phone keeps chiming. I’d highly recommend turning the phone on silent mode (except for emergency situations) so you can fully enjoy your facial without interruptions.
5) Comfy clothes are recommended but not a ‘must’. It’s okay if you’re headed here straight from work because your will be changing into a robe anyway. But after the service, it's nice to change back into something soft and comfortable to extend the experience! Don’t worry about removing your makeup either, because a thorough cleanse is part of your service.
My last piece of advice is to relax and enjoy the treatment! Your esthetician wants your experience to be rewarding and by following these tips, you are setting yourself up for a more blissful treatment. I can’t wait to see you for your next facial!” -Xoxo Vai
